The Characters That Shall Not Be Named

December 30th, 2009 · 14 Comments · Cartoon

Hey Everybody! Well, I’m alive and kicking. Yeah, it’s been a while. But I haven’t forgot the site. It’s just that given a choice of going out and playing or planting my @$$ in front of the computer, well, I’ll take the outdoors anyday.
So today’s post is all about a character that I will not name. Why? You ask? Well, click HERE and for the answer.

So let’s take a peek at these magnetic toys….

So I have no idea if this character that shall not be named is even still being produced. But back in the late 90s, this was one hot item. Now granted, these are magnets, not toys. But believe me when I tell you that there was a bootleg toy line under this name (Politic Pat) that was everywhere! You couldn’t sneeze at a swap meet without tripping over something from the Politic Pat toy line. They were everywhere I tell ya! Everywhere!

Here’s a closer peek at these characters that shall not be named

Heh, it’s a good thing I’m not naming any characters in this bootleg toy series. I honestly have no idea what these guys (gals?) were called. I’ll give them my own names. From left to right we have Sarge, Kasey and Rat. I didn’t just pull those names out of a hat, y’know. Sarge, Kasey and Rat are the names of pets I have/had.

Here’s a couple more of these nameless magnets…

What the heck is that purple thing supposed to be? Most of you I suppose will recognize the bottom figure. But I’m not saying his (her? its?) name! No, I’m not! I guess I can spell it with dashes in-between the letters. I hope it doesn’t get me in trouble again.

P-O-K-E-M-O-N
I changed my mind, I’m not even going to spell it with dashes between the letters.

Just so we are clear now, these things are not for sale or trade. These are part of my own collection of toys and I am only showing them off to you.  Did you hear me Mr Lawyer-Man?
Everybody, thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ve been having a good holiday season.

Purple guy is Venonat, a bug type character that shall not be named. I recognize the other characters, and other than that last Yellow character that shall not be named, I think they all debuted in the same game. Pretty good detail on Rat, even got the dimples right!

Holy crap! Welcome back, its been a long time! I used to be obsessed with the creatures that shall not be named, so its pretty sad that i dont remember any of those guys too. Great review, and ill be looking forward to a dragon ball z, or superhero pack review in the future. BTW, im going to the night flea market tonight. Do you think i can prolly find some bootlegs there?

That Nintendo letter was wonky! What
in the world are they doing by declaring
that you’re trying to sell and distribute
illegal toys? Looks like a knee-jerk
reaction letter without taking the time
to look through the website to see that
nothing of the sort is taking place.

??Politic Pat?? Makes me wonder how
the bootleggers ever came up with that
    name/title. I wish they called it “Poke-It-Man”

Uh, that yellow thing wasn’t called THAT, it was called a word that rhymes with “mikachu.”

What a bunch of nancy gits. You are no way condoning the sale of the products and telling you to stop is not going to shut anyone down. Why not focus on the thousands of ebay auctions and not a harmless blog?

Those are some pretty good bootlegs. They are from the Johto series/Silver/Gold/Crystal games. Well except for the purple one and the yellow mouse.

These toys are pretty cool. Yes they are. Problem is, why did those Nintendo people burn you ten years ago for that toy incident? Don’t they even know you’re just putting pics of bootleg toys on your site and not selling them? They should look properly before sending a lawyer letter to you.

@Athena I think that letter was written in 99.

I remember these things, and I still see them at the stores like TRU.

    Politic Pat?
    xD Poor Pokemon anime.

I’m so glad this website is back. I used to laugh myself to tears reading this website back in college.

Nintendo used to be very overzealous in their enforcement of Pokemon trademarks. They cracked down hard on Pokemon fan sites and even the anti-Pokemon sites back then.

Hi, I found your site from Mental Floss and I’ve been here for over an hour. I love it!

My daughter is completely obsessed with the “company that shall not be mentioned’s” Little Pink Puff Character. *kerbeeee* and it’s hard to find any items anywhere but Japan.

I noticed you don’t have any Spongebob Squarepants toys. Is it because they saturated the marked with so many licensed products?

I find this topic fascinating. Thank you.

Hmmm… I thought I had some Spongebob bootlegs up on the original site. The site had gone down a couple of years ago and I didn’t back up all the files. So the Spongebob bootlegs may have dropped off the map. I guess I’ll have to address that omission now. Thanks for the heads up!

they went after you for just saying the name of the character(s)? that is stupid.
maybe tell them to go to Deviantart.com, tell the lawyers DA’s admins and people that run the site, they say its ok and legal to trace their work and say “i made this my drawing”, because it is popular/famous, so it is not copyright infrigment

I find it hilarious that Nintendo had problems with your site, considering that, by showing the bootlegs, you actually HELP Nintendo and the consumer by showing people which ones are the bootlegged products

Mind you, if somebody buys something called Politic Pat expecting official Pokemon merchandise, they kind of deserve losing their money…
