The Undiscovered Playthings

Masks! I love masks! Really! I don’t know why, I just do. But I love it even more when bootleg toys come with masks. What can beat a Spider-Man mask? How about tossing in a Spider-Man action figure with the mask?
That’s right folks! Take a look!

Awesome ain’t it? Yeah, let’s ignore the 3 coming before the Spider-Man on the card. Heck! The bootleggers couldn’t even make up their mind which Spidey pic to put on the card. Hmmm… Let’s do the movie Spider-Man. The black one. But wait! What if a kid doesn’t recognize a black Spider-Man? They may think the toy’s a fake! Better toss in a piece of comic book art. Just in case. Heh.

Here’s the back. And just like the front, the bootleg toy makers couldn’t make up their minds. Is this a rip off of the comic or the movie?

This bootleg toy actually comes in two flavors. The Spider-Man figure with the red and light blue costume shown up above. The other set features the same mask, but features a Spider-Man in a red and dark blue costume. I thought about grabbing both, but opted to save some of my hard earned money. Actually,  I probably still can grab the other set cuz the shop I bought this at still carries them. Either this wasn’t a hot seller or else the shopkeeper bought way too many of these things.

Now for the close ups.

That figure above ain’t too shabby huh? If it weren’t for the freaking LED on this figure’s chest, it might actually fool people into thinking this is a ‘real’ Spider-Man figure. Too bad those bootleg toy makers just don’t know when to quit. They should have left the LED off of this guy.
Heh, they also screwed up the back of the card. The cards of lots of these bootleg toys that have figures with LEDs on them, also have a slot on the back. This way you can slip your finger behind the figure, press the button and BAM! the LED lights up. But for some reason, the slot on the back of this card is in back of THE MASK.

Speaking of the mask, take a look:

It doesn’t look to shabby huh? There’s even some breathing holes in the mask. That was pretty thoughtful of the bootleg toy makers. By the way, if you look at the lower right, well, this thing’s a ‘NEW ARRIVAL’. From China or some toy factory out in the Arizona desert? I wonder the bootlegger meant to shape the weblines on the mask into a spider on the mask or if it was just some kind of weird coincidence?

Okay, I think this is a pretty cool set. The bootleg toy makers usually don’t bother making masks. So for this, I actually thank them (cuz I like masks).
