Superman Part II

July 16th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Superheroes, Superman

Here is the second four pack of figures in the bootleg toy set SUPERMAN. The packaging is similar to the first one. But we get the joy of a couple of new figures. And yes folks, as you can see by the way the figures are packaged with the accessories, quality is built right in at the bootleg toy factory.

I didn’t bother to try and figure out which ‘real’ Superman figure the bootleg Superman below is based on. It doesn’t really show in the picture, but this figure’s legs are a dark green. Heh, you just gotta love the LED that was placed right in the center of the S logo.
WARNING: RANT AHEAD!
Y’know, if the LED came in other colors besides red, I probably wouldn’t be so bothered by it. But man, same color LED shows up in just about every bootleg action figure (and non-action figure) nowadays.

Some assembly required for the figure below. But don’t blame your kid for losing any parts. The bootleg toy makers didn’t see fit to include all the necessary pieces.

Every one of the bootleg SUPERMAN sets that had these four figures in it came with Superman covered by the net. It appears to be intentional. But the thing is, there’s room in the bubble that the net could have been inserted without having to cover the figure’s face. What were they thinking at the bootleg toy factory?

The figure above, like the figure below, is in both of the SUPERMAN bootleg toy sets. I guess there weren’t enough Superman figures available for the two SUPERMAN sets to feature different figures. Still, ya gotta love this figure’s eyes. Is Superman high on something or what?

That’s it for this SUPERMAN bootleg toy series. I’ll say one thing about this bootleg toy series, if you ignore the poor quality of the packaging, accessories and figures, this isn’t such a bad set of figures after all.

The green chested ‘figure’ are the components for the ‘quick change’ Superman/Clark Kent from the animated series line up (not sure if it’s exact name!). The fact that it looks nothing like Clark Kent (hell it looks more like Egon Spengler from The Real Ghostbusters!) should also be noted. I’m thinking it should go on top of ‘net’ Superman, but it doesn’t look like it would allow for the head to drop into the chest to support the head peice with that stupid led in there (even if it did drop).

That netting isn’t even a separate molded piece. It looks like a piece of plastic netting that’s meant for needlepoint, and that I use for costumes. So they just cut it roughly in a shape of a “net.”

Gah! I paid like $10 each back then for that Neutron Star Superman and that original Animated Series Superman! And here we have high-quality reproductions for cheap!

I’d be more pissed, but that LED ruins the figures :[

Has anyone else noticed that, on the packaging, the Superman photo on the left has a backwards S?
